Reg spent the whole of his career in the traffic department, in 1933 he was assistant to the Chief Forwarding Clerk Mr A E Fox. Reg worked his way through the various positions to the top job as Traffic Superintendent in 1947 a position he then held for twenty-five years. Reg always regretted the fact that he was not able to enlist because of his occupation. Reg spent the war years at Lynn Docks, although he was a member of the Home Guard. He retired on 29th April 1972 after completing a total of forty-nine years' service at the Port of King's Lynn.

In his younger days Reg played cricket for the docks team and was playing tennis for pleasure until he was well over 70. In later years he was a keen spectator of sports on the television.

Reg was an outdoor man, a keen gardener, and enjoyed walking with his dog in the woods around Sandringham and over the marshes. He was a staunch churchgoer and had been both churchwarden and treasurer of the parochial church council in Ingoldisthorpe. The former rector of Ingoldisthorpe, Canon Roger Pott, came out of retirement especially to take the service. Mr Eric Bocking was the organist.

On moving to Ingoldisthorpe Reg used to commute from Dersingham station until the railway closed and he bought a car. He and Evie spent several pleasant years exploring the Norfolk countryside. They both played an active part in village life and were involved with church functions. In retirement Reg was able to devote a lot more time to his beloved garden.
